eds wins 2011 Queen's Award for international trade
EDS has set an industry standard by becoming the first decommissioning contractor of its nature to win a Queen's Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category 2011, firmly establishing its position as a major global player.
The Queen's Awards for Enterprise are the most prestigious corporate awards that any UK business can win. HM The Queen makes the Awards on the advice of the Prime Minister, who is assisted by an Advisory Committee that includes representatives of Government, industry and commerce and trade unions. They are announced annually on 21st April, the Queen's birthday.
In order to be eligible for the International Trade category, EDS had to demonstrate outstanding achievement in international trade over three years and substantial growth in overseas earnings and commercial success. EDS won the award in recognition for growing its overseas income over fourfold in three years to a total of some £76m.
Managing Director, Darren Palin, said; "This is the greatest accolade we could possibly receive in recognition for our work in the global marketplace and to be the first industry winner of our kind is fantastic. Over the last 15 years EDS has evolved into a total service provider and our track record of handling highly complex projects has enabled us to expand our overseas operations, with the establishment of our Canada office being a sizeable aspect of the group and integral to our growth.
"In order to ensure continued high levels of service delivery we work closely with local partners in the overseas locations to overcome the language barriers or regulatory requirements and make a positive contribution to the local economies through job creation. Looking ahead to the next five years we envisage a continued expansion of our global operations including the possibility of opening an Australian office."
