Case Study - Ineos Chlor LTD, Wilton, Teeside
Company: Ineos Chlor
Location: Wilton, Redcar, Teeside
Project Value Asset Recovery offset Project Cost : eds offered £35,000
Project Type Demolition of Caustic Chlorine & Ethylene Dichloride Plants
Ineos Chlor are one of the major Chlor-Alkali producers in Europe and a global leader in Chlorine Derivatives.
Following a competitive online e-bid, eds procured this large scale demolition project. Due to the substantial amount of plant and equipment on this contract, eds were able to offer Ineos Chlor credits to offset the total Project Cost of demolition.
EDS commissioned an independent 3rd party to verify the quantities and grades of scrap and validate the amounts to Ineos Chlor. The value of the credits amounted to more than the project cost, therefore eds offered to pay Ineos Chlor £35,000 to undertake the works.
Prior to the commencement of works on site, eds stringently assessed and reviewed all aspects of the woks including:
- COSHH Implications.
- Recognition of process substances.
- Expected quantities and patterns of exposure to our employees.
- Proposed methodology of the demolition and dismantling of structures, plant, equipment and buildings.
- Decontamination of the plant.
The main activities on this extensive Chemical Demolition Project included:
- Soft strip and removal of the process materials and equipment remaining following plant closure. Removal of asbestos and other hazardous residual materials.
- Dismantling and setting aside of selected items of production plant for reuse by the Client.
- Demolition and clearance of two production units and associated plant and services.
- Explosive Demolition of the Chlorine Absorption Structure, Thickener and Evaporator Structures.
- Demolition of cooling towers, pipe bridges, tanks and pipe tracks.
- Demolition of switchhouses and administration buildings.
- Environmental clean of the Cell Building.
eds successfully completed this project in early 2005 to the full satisfaction of the client
