Case Study - Borden Chemicals
Location: Rownhams Road, North Baddesley, Southampton
Projects Value: £1.5 million
Project Type: Turnkey Project
Project Scope: Removal of asbestos fibrous material, plant relocation, demolition and remediation for housing development.
From a large scale competitive tender situation eds won a two-year programme to regenerate the local area through total project management in coordination with client management company (Capita). The project objective was to strategically remove a redundant chemical plant from a populated housing estate in order to further develop the surrounding area.
With eds's expertise in total turnkey project management the multi-faceted aspects of the project were undertaken with a fundamental focus on health, safety and environmental issues in order to minimise disruption whilst maintaining a critical programme.
Not only did eds undertake asbestos removal and demolition activities but using in-house dismantling techniques they were able to relocate valuable plant equipment to alternative sites saving the client considerable revenue on the project costs.
In addition to performing the project in a populated location the main focus was safety during operation and removal. Regular risk assessments were undertaken to ensure all tasks were performed without consequential incidents resulting in delays and costs.
eds's philosophy for project foresight and planning was optimised by applying sequential dismantling techniques, which accelerated the regeneration phase for housing development.
This was achieved by sequentially planning remediation activities which involved asbestos removal, soil and water removal in order to prepare the land to a brown field standard for future building development projects.
Mutually agreed key performance indicators were set by the client and the consultants all which eds achieved through implementation of innovative solutions and utilisation of their diverse in-house experience.
This unique combination of environmental awareness and varied skill base not only saved the client money in equipment costs but attained local acknowledgment for implementing non-disruptive operational planning strategies for the benefit of the community.
