Case Study - Remediation of Soils to Resident's Gardens
Client: Greenwich Borough Council
Location: Greenwich, London
The Issue
The remediation of soils to the front and back gardens of 70 houses situated to the rear of Charlton Football Ground. The residents were to remain in their homes throughout the works and Charlton Athletic Club Saturday matches could not be disrupted.
The Objective
Excavate and remove one metre depth of soils from the front and rear of all properties and public open spaces together with the design and reinstatement of front and back gardens, including concrete and brick retaining walls, paving, decking, plants and garden furniture.
The Solution
- Demolition of residences (20 units) and the removal of asbestos materials and foundations.
- Management of site activities to excavate front and rear gardens whilst ensuring the safety of residents, their children and pets and providing constant access to their homes.
- Excavation of contaminated soils and reinstatement with inert natural soils.
- Design and reinstatement of all gardens and open spaces.
- Liaison with all residents and the production of a final report for sign-off by each resident. This entailed liaison with all 70 householders to work up and execute their individual designs for hard and soft landscaping.
